Description

Note: This is NOT an official or unofficial release for the game wipEout. It has no association to SCE Studio Liverpool, or Sony (the previous owner and current owner of the wipEout game), except by being FAN ART.

My fan art is unique in that it does not replicate any version of the wipEout game, except in small part.

This is page 2 in a possible 4 page piece focusing around my own concept of a preliminary version of wipeout. While wipEout is set in the future, since my version is sort of steampunk-esque, I backdated my version by 20 years to all the game's futuristic dates.

(cont from page 1)

Insert 6 shows the pilot placing his arm in the "bear trap" armbands.

Insert 7 shows the "bear trap" armband clamping down/locking in.
Note: I thought about having some form of restraining device (seat belts or the like), but I realized that the padded bear trap armbands might constitute a passive restraint combined with the foot-block.

Insert 8 shows the pilot extending his finger to power up the AG racer.
...doesn't everybody "fwp" a switch??? ;P

Insert 9 shows the scarab-style canopy closing. The AG thruster engines can be seen glowing, as the "sidetables" also show they are starting to glow blue from having turned on.
...and "yes", the canopy doors close with a "shhhk". I was raised on Star Trek (TOS) and doors don't simply make any other sound except "shhk!" :XD:

Insert 10 shows the pilot testing the rear AG motors first rolling them to the side...

Insert 11 shows the AG motors rolling to the side in response to the pilot's actions.

History of the project/What's been going on:
I started this project back on December 1. The idea progressed easily enough and I posted WIP's to keep my enthusiasm fresh, until I hit a snag on January 1st. At first, I tried to fix the model as best I could until I realized I had to rework the model from the start on January 12th.

Despondently I saw a lot of work ahead of me and since is just a non-profit fan based "let me see if I can do it" sort of thing, I had no real impetus to completing the work beyond my own ambition which waned.

I jumped on a few alternate projects, started a few new projects in an attempt to clear my head so I could attack this project with renewed vigor. Sadly, though I went into it and looked at it many times, I figured this was on the back burner indefinitely.
Which is sad because I did the background "page" and font's long ago and said I was not going to submit that until I had finished the project and made the prints to post on it.

Originally I had made this background page only long enough to post 2 pictures on it, but I had ideas in the back of my head that I wanted to showcase all the "parts" of the model to show "how it works!"

Ambitious, but that's my middle name! ;P

I also had ideas of making an animation, but it seems the only way for me to do that would be if I made it black and white, which didn't appeal to me.

Anyway, I kept seeing the unused background, and got wistful, sometimes even just thinking "what if I just post that page...?" because the background in and of itself is a model of fonts I made up.

Long story short... (Yeah, I know, too late!) I started again on the model itself and got to a point that I was doing internal structure for the racer, in an attempt to rationalize the design. I also extensively reworked the thruster engines to make them more functional looking than "here is a glowing tube that creates thrust."
:XD:

I put in about 6 solid days of remodeling the model, then for the last two days I sized and adjusted the inserted pictures on the page(s) above.

I haven't finished posting pictures, but I need some enthusiasm to finish this and posting does help with that. I have page three halfway finished, but I'm not sure exactly how many pages there will be until I am done.

The background:
While used as a reference and therefore is still considered "fan art", the font for the background was not "copied, projected or traced. I simply studied the styles used in the game and drew in 3D format what I saw.

The term "Nitrousity" is my own invention, though the font style used was developed after having performed the rendering of the "wipEout" and "Auricom" fonts for the title. I retain all rights and privileges to the use of that term in association to wipEout.

"background and fonts" ~4 hrs

Some textures are modified versions of Sketchup's textures which is in accordance with SketchUp 7's TOS. Other textures are colors I have designed (However I don't consider a single color to be truly called a "texture").

While the names "wipEout" and "auricom" and the concept of AG racers in general, are © of Sony and SCE Studio Liverpool, the above concept is my own rendition.

The mannequin is my own design but modeled after ArqDirk's design (ArkDirk @ 3D warehouse)

I have to give a special thanks to Hellfire WZ who posted a video here:

Wipeout - Through the Ages - The Weapons

They gave a very good and informative dissertation about the game wipEout.

I'd also like to give a callout to :iconmdhay: who first got me interested in the wipEout game.
